A Founder's Letter on Fixing the Opportunity Gap for Tier 2 & Tier 3 College Students
A student's future should never be decided by the name of their college.
That thought stayed with me throughout my engineering journey.
The Talent Was Never the Problem
Every time I looked around, I saw talented students with big dreams. Students who wanted to build startups, work on real projects, learn new technologies, lead communities, and create something meaningful.
But there was one problem.
They didn't lack talent.
They lacked opportunities.
Why Should Opportunities Belong to a Few Colleges?
I studied in a Tier 2 college, and I kept asking myself one question.
Why should opportunities belong only to a few colleges?
Why do some students have access to mentors, startup ecosystems, hackathons, internships, industry exposure and strong communities, while thousands of equally capable students never even hear about them?
Is talent different?
No.
The ecosystem is.
That was the reality that frustrated me.
Not because I hated my college.
But because I knew the students around me deserved much more than what they were getting.
The Gap Nobody Talked About
I met students who wanted to achieve something big but didn't know where to begin.
Some didn't know what a real internship actually meant.
Some believed paying for a certificate was the same as gaining industry experience.
Some thought engineering was just about attending classes, writing exams and waiting four years for placements.
None of this was their fault.
Nobody had shown them a different path.
The World Was Changing — But the Syllabus Wasn't
At the same time, the world outside our classrooms was changing rapidly.
Industries were evolving. New ideas were shaping the future. Companies were looking for students who could solve problems, work in teams, communicate well and build real skills.
Yet many students were still spending years following a syllabus that often didn't reflect today's industry expectations.
Foundations are important.
But four years cannot be only about foundations.
Students deserve exposure to the real world while they're still in college.
The Moment Everything Became Clear
The problem wasn't that Tier 2 and Tier 3 students lacked capability.
The problem was that they lacked an ecosystem.
They lacked communities.
They lacked guidance.
They lacked opportunities.
And that's exactly why StuDesk exists.
